Collision

A collision at sea is probably the second most common type of maritime accident.

It can often be of little consequence, with some scraped paint, bent handrails or buckled steel.

However, it often leads to a far more serious situation.

Fire, explosion, progressive flooding, capsize and sinking could all result from a relatively small bump, and the actions taken in the first hour following a collision can be crucial.
