Very complex calculations can be required in stability critical salvage operations and traditionally salvors have brought in heavy lift equipment to provide the brawn required to ensure the operation is a success.  Over the past 15 years, there have been great developments in 3D computer modelling which has allowed accurate, computerised models of ships hull form to be constructed for use in specialised damage stability programs.
The result is greater accuracy of calculations, increased confidence in the salvage plan and a reduced requirement for heavy lift equipment.
